Collaboration
Toyo Tsuchiya was a prominent artist in the Lower East Side of Manhattan in the 1980s during a period of Anti-Art (Neoism). Co-creator of NO SE NO Social Club and the Rivington School, Toyo’s archive spans thousands of silver gelatin prints documenting the artist scene of the 1980s — as not only a photographer, but as an individual contributor. Developed from this work was a structure to be built upon through the construction of his archive.
The structure, contrary to a living artist’s portfolio, served to present the work as an overview, inviting curators and galleries to gaze upon the range of work.
An inspiring force. I was honored to be a part of this work.
